Patna University is one of the oldest universities in India, situated near the banks of the River Ganga. It was established in 1917, and in 1952 it was completely transformed into a teaching-residential university. The university is located in the heart and capital city of Bihar. The campus size of the university is around 181 acres. It has a total 8 numbers of faculties and 42 departments. It has 31 postgraduate departments in the faculties of Sciences, Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences, as well as 4 institutes in Psychology, Public Administration, Music, and Library. Patna University is one of the finest universities in Bihar State that offers undergrad and post graduate courses. Patna University also provides Ph.D. in various languages like Sanskrit, Hindi, English, and Arabic, etc. Patna University also offers Distance Learning Education since many students from villages or distant areas are not able to attend the college. There are also 10 other colleges attached to Patna University. These 10 colleges are; BN College, Patna Science, Training, Law & Women’s College; Commerce College; Magadha Women’s College; Patna College; Arts & Crafts College; and one training college for women. Patna University also offers PG diploma courses in Industrial Safety and Rural Management. Other than these, the university offers a PG diploma in Bio Informatics and Computer Applications. The university has very limited infrastructure, yet every year many students pass exams conducted by UGC and UPSC. The students of Bihar state are attracted towards civil services, so they prefer getting into Patna University and start preparing for the UPSC and state exams since college day. The faculties also help students prepare for the competitive exams. There were many notable alumni of this college; BC ROY, 1st CM of West Bengal; Krishna Sinha, 1st CM of Bihar, to name a few.
